News and Notes
from the Band Room

Week 9

10/28/2019

Your students were amazing this weekend!  I hope that you enjoyed their performance as much as I did.  While that might have brought a conclusion to our competitive season, we still have a few performances left.  For certain, we have one scheduled football game left, with the possibility of one if not more playoff games.  We do not travel to away games.  We will only participate at Home Football Games for the playoffs.  We will know more about the playoff schedule after this Friday night.

Our rehearsal schedule will lighten this week.   We will have a music only rehearsal for the drumline, pit, and winds.  The color guard has the afternoon off on Tuesday.  We will be going over Stand Tunes for Friday night.  That rehearsal will be from 2:30 – 4:00.  There will be no rehearsal on Thursday of this week.  Friday afternoon we will have rehearsal from 3:00 – 5:00 for a review of the show before the Halftime and post-game performance.

On Friday, a student from NHS will be putting together a video for a school project that he is working on.  He would like to do a video montage of the of the band using a drone.   Your student will be coming home with a permission slip on Tuesday allowing them to be video recorded.

  • Tuesday, October 29th.  2:30 – 4:00
    • Music Only Rehearsal.  Winds, Drum line and Pit only.
  • Thursday, October 31st.  NO REHEARSAL
  • Friday, November 1st.  2:30 – 10:00
    • We will be purchasing pizzas for all students.  Students will not need money for pizzas or sodas on Friday.  They can bring money for concessions at the Football Game Friday Night.

As always thank you for your support,
RB

Week 8

10/21/2019

I hope that everyone enjoyed the Saturday off and was able to charge their batteries for the week to come.  There is a very big change to our schedule this week.  We will not have rehearsal on Tuesday evening due to the 100% chance of rain.  We will reschedule that rehearsal from 3 – 6 on Friday in the Stadium.  If we have any parents who are available to help get the pit to the field on Friday afternoon that would be greatly appreciated.  Our Thursday rehearsal will remain the same, from 4 – 7.

We will not have a tailgate on Saturday, please make sure that your student eats a good breakfast and packs a lunch for the ride to Baltimore.  Students will be able to purchase concessions at the stadium.  We will not be stopping on the way home.

I am extremely excited about the bands performance this Saturday and hope that everyone of our supporters will be in the stands!  If you are in need of tickets, you can get them at a discounted rate while they last through the band boosters.

Week 7

10/14/2019

Wow, what a Saturday!  To paraphrase one of our boosters, “so many great memories were made (and captured) this weekend”.  The Patriot Classic was truly a remarkable event.  A very special thank you to Barbie Davis for chairing the Patriot Classic.  Her leadership was outstanding!  To all the volunteers throughout the day, thank you, a thousand times thank you.  You helped to create a wonderful memory for all of the student’s high school experience.  There are so many people to thank, please know that everyone who was a part of the Northern Band family this past Saturday needs to be commended for putting on a first-class event.

This week’s schedule will feel like a walk in the park compared to last week, but there is a slight change on Thursday due to the half day.  Students will not be permitted to stay after school on Thursday and the start time of the rehearsal will be pushed back to accommodate getting to rehearsal.

Week 5

9/30/2019

Greetings,
What a great weekend!!!  I hope that you enjoyed it has much as I did.  We still have a lot of work left to do but I am excited about the possibilities as the band heads towards the Patriot Classic on October 12th, but first...

HOMECOMING!!!

This is always a very exciting week for the students.  This morning I was greeted by a clown, two eagles and Chewbacca, so as you can imagine the energy on campus is very high.

Our schedule will remain the same for Tuesday’s and Thursday’s rehearsal.  Please note that the rehearsal is from 4 - 7, we still need to put things away after rehearsal.  All students are expected to pitch in to help everyone get out as quickly as possible.

Our Friday schedule will be slightly different.

Please encourage your student to hydrate over the next couple of days.  It’s supposed to be in the 90’s Wednesday and Thursday.  Also make sure your student is bringing their large water bottles from band camp to rehearsal.  A three-hour rehearsal is a long time for a student if they only have a 20 oz water bottle.  Hats, and sunglasses are still a thing.

Thanks for the support,
RB
