Let me first say thank you to all of the students who performed on Friday night. Your work ethic over the past two weeks was fantastic. I know that you probably went home each night and passed out on the sofa, but just think of the progress that we made. If we continue to work like this over the next few weeks I am sure that we will be in great shape for the first home football game on September 15th.
Parents your students are amazing! Please continue to encourage them; we are far from done when it comes to learning and the things that we learned during camp need to be continuously reviewed and refined. They should be practicing every day. In addition to practicing their music, they can also practice moving their feet to the beat of their favorite song. Here’s a link to tune that would be perfect to practice their marching to. https://youtu.be/dTAAsCNK7RA
There are so many people who I should have thanked on Friday night, but band directors get nervous and anxious just like your students and sometimes things slip our mind. Here is a list of people who we owe a standing ovation to:
Over the next two weeks we have rehearsals on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 6 – 9. There has been some confusion on this since the original hand out said 5 – 8. Some other changes are that we will not be performing at the first home football game on September 1st. Our first home football game is not until after school starts on the 15th. Additionally the Calvert County Showcase of Bands has been cancelled for this year. Every Middle School in the County but one is holding their back to school night that night. So we will try to hold this event next year.
I am very excited about this season. If your students are new to the program, please continue to encourage them. They need to work at what they’ve learned everyday so that it does not leave them. If you are the parents of students who have done this before please remind the students of what I said when I arrived at Northern. The only constant in this world is change. We are not the same band that we were last year, but we will get there if they trust the process and continue to work hard.
Thank you for your continued support,
